Kephart Family Preview | Lone Pine Farms, Eugene OR

I just love watching this family grow up. Not only are they a fun, gorgeous family of four but they are some of our best friends so any excuse to see them is always a plus! It’s hard to believe its been almost six years since our first session. We had a blast hanging out at Lone Pine eating apple cider donuts and choosing the best pumpkin.
Did I mention how much I love this family?

This is going to be short and sweet because I am exhausted and leaving early tomorrow morning for a weekend of shooting in Eugene, but I promised mom a few more previews of her sweet little gal because she was a tad worried since this cutie decided she wasn’t too into photos during our session.
If you didn’t know, you’d never know. I love this photogenic family!

I had way too much fun with the Sharp family yesterday! This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this gorgeous family and I was stoked when they agreed to meet me at my hidden park I’ve discovered. The fall foliage is stunning right now and we had a blast playing in the leaves and running around snapping photos.
The Adventures of Billie Mae

It was one of those late May days that wants so badly to be summer despite the cool spring breeze that still lingers. I met Colin, Annie, their incredibly adorable daughter Billie Mae and their wonderful dog Teddy at their home to take some photos. Nestled in a charming neighborhood among the SW hills of Portland I loved everything about this in-home session. These types of sessions are some of my favorite to shoot because everyone is so relaxed and truly able to be themselves. I love capturing people in their “space” and always find the results so true.
I loved getting to know this sweet family. Here is a peek into their beautiful life.
CRAZY SUMMER {catch up time}
Posted on September 15, 2015
September 15th???? How in the heck did that happen? No seriously, I blinked and summer was here and gone! And although I loved every minute of it I am so looking forward to a little down time these next few weeks to catch up on everything!
As most of you probably know (although some of you may not…) we are expecting a sweet baby girl this winter! Piper Addison will be making her appearance sometime after Christmas and we seriously could not be more excited or thrilled!!!
I’ve been MIA for quite some time here on the blog but just because I wasn’t posting definitely does not mean I wasn’t shooting! I spent the summer capturing some AMAZING weddings with some absolutely GORGEOUS families. I love my job so so so very much, although powering through the constant morning sickness (why the heck do they call it morning sickness when it lasts all day???) as well as the general exhaustion of growing a human definitely took its toll on me. I’m so excited to finally be catching up on editing and getting some amazing blog posts ready for you guys!
In the meantime this sweet face.

I get so excited when I get to photograph this sweet family, not only have they been good friends of mine for years but I swear they CANNOT take a bad picture. It’s kind of ridiculous. Needless to say I get all giddy whenever they book a session.
On a sunny afternoon this past March we met up at one of their favorite parks for Zoey’s two year photos. I cannot believe this cute girl is two! I love watching her grow and capturing the love of this family. Gabriel park holds extremely special meaning to Jeff and Nikki, not only is it a place they bring Zoey to play on a regular basis but a beautiful bench in memory of one of their good friends is located here and they explained that they always go to visit “Uncle Phil’s bench.”
I had a seriously difficult time narrowing down which photos to include in this post. I love them all.

I always look forward to photographing this family. They are so real. So genuine.
I’ve known Robyn for years, having grown up with her sister Traci, and reconnected with her and her husband Andy a few months after their gorgeous twin girls Lily and Emma came home from the NICU after having a rather rough start to their little lives. Actually a rough start is putting it mildly. During Robyn’s pregnancy they were given a less than 1% chance of their girls surviving. Although I was not in direct contact with Robyn at the time, Traci had shared with me what was going on and my heart ached for this family. Along with countless others I prayed daily that these sweet girls would continue to fight, I remember when Traci told me the girls had both come home from the hospital. I cried tears of happiness for the miracle that was these little girls. I immediately told Traci I wanted to gift them a photography session to celebrate this amazing time, the day so many told them would never come. Both of their precious baby girls had come home from the hospital.
We arranged a day to meet for that first session and the rest, as they say, is history. That was in September of 2012. Nearly three years and multiple photo sessions later I have come to know and love this family so very much. Robyn has been an amazing and true friend to me, being there for me in so many countless ways I cannot even begin to count. I love her as my own family and love watching her sweet kiddos grow up! It has seriously been a challenge trying to narrow down which photos to include in this blog post! I look at these photos and I see real life, there is no pretense, there is no posing for the camera.. Just them, being real.
For this session we decided to meet at a play ground connected to an old school along Coburg Rd out by Harrisburg. I knew it would be the perfect place to start, let the kids run some energy out and of course snap some amazing photos. After the playground we headed down the road about a mile to Andy’s cousin’s house where we caught some beautiful late afternoon rays and played in the field. “Wish” flowers were among a favorite of the kiddos that day as well as making sure we got some good photos with a beloved green frog that came along for the session. This family never ceases to keep me on my toes! I love how this fun and crazy session turned out.
And….

I have been sitting here for weeks with this blog post in draft status. Each time I sit down to finish, the words somehow escape me and I am left staring at a blank screen. How can I adequately put into words what I felt while photographing this beautiful family.
This family.
This beautiful family of four who I have been blessed to call friends. This family who, to many will now only look like three. I could talk about the immense love they so clearly have for each other. I could tell you about the way Nick glances at Kate and you can tell she is his world. I could say they look down at their baby boy Eamonn, as if he hung the stars. Because all of that is true. But than there is this other side. The side I know too well. The look of longing, the pain in their eyes because part of them is missing. A piece of their heart is gone forever. They are so excited for family photos and if you didn’t know you would never know. To the world they appear the ever care free new parents happily doting on their sweet new babe. Because they are. But they are also dealing with an immense grief. A few months ago my amazing, courageous friends were forced to say good bye to their gorgeous son Ruan, Eamonn’s twin brother. How do you adequately put into words the joy and the love and the sorrow and the grief. The millions of emotions that swirl around your brain when your child dies. You just don’t.
There are zero words to say when someone loses a child. It just shouldn’t happen. But it does. This sweet life that was, but oh so briefly. He was here. He matters. Ruan. A strong name for such a strong little man.
I loved this session. But it was raw. I knew it would be an emotional session for me and it was. I admire Nick and Kate so much. I am honored to have captured their sweet family.
